- Day 1. Arrival in Caldas de Reis
If your arrival is at the Santiago de Compostela airport or train station and you have selected the car rental option, you will pick up the vehicle at the designated location. If traveling with your own car, proceed directly to Caldas de Reis.
Located halfway between Santiago and Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis is near A Baxe, by the reservoir. With your own car and at your leisure, you will arrive at the selected hotel, which will be your first place of rest for two nights.
On this first day, you will check in and rest as needed, depending on your journey.
You will have the option, depending on your arrival time and the rest you require, to explore the surroundings, where you will find the reservoir and its dam, or visit Caldas de Reis and its Thermal Fountain of Burgas, as well as some of the area's spas. In any case, this first day is free for relaxation and to recharge for the upcoming days. First night at the assigned hotel in Caldas de Reis.
- Day 2. Vilagarcía de Arousa – O Grove – La Toja – Sanxenxo – Caldas de Reis
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel with its marvelous views. Once you are ready, begin the first route of this second day. With your own car, you will explore 4 locations before returning to the manor house to enjoy your second night. Excluding stopovers, the total driving time is approximately 1h 45min, covering around 109 km.
The suggested route is as follows:
Vilagarcía de Arousa
Take the N-640 from the hotel towards this town. Before arriving, it’s worth stopping at Pazo de Baión, formerly owned by drug lord Laureano Oubiña, and Pazo de Rubiáns, near Vilagarcía de Arousa. This manor house not only boasts fascinating French-style architecture but also beautiful gardens, vineyards, and cellars where you can sample Albariño wine and cheese. After this visit, proceed directly to Vilagarcía, a town filled with charm, including its beaches, manor houses, and port. You can stroll through the town to see the Augustinian convent and Pazo de Vista Alegre, which currently cannot be visited inside but whose exterior perfectly reflects the typical style of Galician civil architecture.
O Grove and La Toja
Heading south on the VG-4.3, you can make a detour to Cambados to see the delightful Pazo de Montesacro. Continuing along AG-41 and VG-4.1, you will reach O Grove and La Toja in about 35 minutes. Before arriving, you will pass the stunning La Lanzada Beach with its high-quality sand. These two towns are connected by the La Toja bridge. This area is ideal for strolling along its beaches and forest park and enjoying the sea views. Depending on your schedule, you can savor the local cuisine at grills, seafood restaurants, or tapas bars. If you have time, La Toja offers the Talaso Hotel Louxo la Toja with thalassotherapy treatments or the Eurostars Gran Hotel la Toja with balneotherapy.
Sanxenxo
From the road you took to reach O Grove, a small detour in O Vinquiño will bring you to Sanxenxo in just 17 minutes. Here, you can enjoy numerous beaches, viewpoints, and nautical clubs. If you didn’t visit the thalassotherapy center in La Toja, there are other options here, such as Hotel Carlos I Silgar, Gran Talaso Hotel Sanxenxo, or Hotel Augusta Spa Resort Superior, where you can relax. It is also a great place to try tapas or dine in its bars, restaurants, and taverns while strolling through its marina and beaches.
- Day 3. Guided Tour in Pontevedra
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel in Caldas de Reis, marking the end of your stay there.
By taking the N-640 and connecting to the AP-9 heading south or the N-550, you will travel to your next accommodation in Vigo. Before arriving, you can visit Pontevedra, located only about 30 minutes away.
The city's name comes from Latin, meaning "old bridge," and it is one of the key points along the Portuguese Way of Saint James. During a Guided Tour of Pontevedra, you will explore its historic center, filled with chapels, squares, convents, ruins, and fascinating museums. It’s a city that invites you to walk around leisurely and soak in its scenery and ambiance.
You can visit the Pazo de Mugartegui, a Baroque building crafted from locally quarried stone. Its remarkable noble coat of arms can be seen prominently on its facade. Another option is the abandoned but stunning Pazo de Lourizán, an estate showcasing French Romantic architectural style, complete with spectacular gardens.
After completing the tour, you may choose to try the local cuisine in the city or proceed directly to your hotel in Vigo, where you will check in and have the option to dine at the accommodation.
- Day 4. Vigo – Cíes Islands
Begin the fourth day with breakfast at your accommodation in Vigo.
Depending on the ferry departure time for the Cíes Islands, you can either take a walk around Vigo or head directly to the marina.
The islands are part of the Atlantic Islands National Park and are considered a paradisiacal destination, balancing tourism with ecological preservation. They feature some of the best beaches in Europe and the world, such as the stunning Rodas Beach.
There are two restaurants on the islands where you can have lunch; prior reservation is highly recommended.
Your return to Vigo will depend on the ferry schedule, giving you additional time to enjoy the beautiful city.
Vigo boasts a fascinating historic center and the San Sebastián Castle atop Mount Castro. You can also visit the M.A.R.C.O. Contemporary Art Museum and its port, one of the world's most significant fishing harbors. Other highlights include the Castrelos Manor, now known as the Quiñones de León Museum, or the San Roque Manor.
At the end of the day, return to your hotel for a restful second night at this delightful establishment.
- Day 5. Free Day in Baiona
After breakfast at your accommodation in Vigo, check out and continue to Baiona. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.
Your accommodation in Baiona will depend on availability for the selected dates.
This day is dedicated to enjoying Baiona: relaxing, sampling its exquisite cuisine, spending a wonderful day at the beach, or indulging in a rejuvenating bath at a thalassotherapy center.
The most remarkable attractions in Baiona include its beaches and nautical activities. Its old town has been declared a “Historic-Artistic Site of Interest”.
Spend the night at the assigned accommodation.
- Day 6. Baiona – Santa Trega Castro – A Guarda – Tui – Valença do Minho
After breakfast at the hotel, the sixth day begins.
Head toward A Guarda via the PO-552 coastal road, stopping at Santa Trega Castro. Located at Galicia's southwesternmost point, it offers a privileged view over the Miño River estuary. The castro is a fortified settlement where the ancient village layout can still be seen. The archaeological museum on-site showcases the cultures that once inhabited the area.
After this memorable visit, proceed to Tui, a city with much to offer, including Monte Aloia Natural Park, the Tui Cathedral, the Santo Domingo Monastery, and various fascinating churches and landscapes.
Lastly, cross the border bridge to see the fortress of Valença in Portugal, where you can marvel at its moats and impressive walls. If time permits, enjoy traditional Portuguese bacalhau (codfish).
After this visit, return to Baiona, where you will have dinner and spend the night.
