Self-guided circuit by car (own or rental), where over 7 days (6 nights), we will visit the most iconic Paradores in Galicia. This circuit is specially designed for those seeking a unique experience, combining the comfort and charm of the Paradores with the natural and cultural beauty of Galicia.

Paradores de Turismo is a prestigious network of hotel establishments in Spain, which has been managing nearly a hundred hotels across Spain (and one in Portugal) for almost a century, with a presence in all the autonomous communities.

What makes Paradores de Turismo special is the location of their establishments: emblematic buildings chosen for their historical, artistic, or cultural value. From castles and palaces to convents, monasteries, modern buildings, or unique natural settings.

These surroundings allow visitors to discover a fundamental part of Spain’s history, as they are distributed throughout the country, with a strong presence in Andalusia, Castile and León, and Galicia. The latter boasts 12 Paradores, several of which are ranked in the TOP 20 of the chain’s published ranking.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Origin - Parador de Baiona

If your arrival is at the airport or train station and you have chosen the rental vehicle option, we will collect the car at the designated location. If you are traveling with your own vehicle, we will head directly to your accommodation in Baiona.

On this first day, we will check in, and depending on the time of arrival and the rest needed, we will have the option to explore the surrounding area. After settling into our accommodation, we will take a stroll around the Parador de Baiona, which will be our home for the next two days.

You will enjoy the unforgettable experience of staying in a medieval fortress, a newly built structure within a historic site, located in a privileged spot on the Monterreal Peninsula. While the elegance of its rooms and suites is remarkable, the main feature of this place is the grandeur of its ocean views. We recommend walking through its walled gardens or enjoying a drink while admiring its magnificent sunset.

Afterwards, we will rest at the accommodation to prepare for a new day full of adventures.

  • Day 2: A Guarda - Castro Santa Trega - Valença do Minho - Tui

Our second day at the Baiona accommodation begins. After a hearty breakfast, we will prepare for an excursion along the oldest border in Europe, separating Galicia from Portugal, delineated by the Miño River.

We will head to A Guarda, following the coastline with breathtaking views of the stunning Atlantic Ocean. In this town, we will visit the Castelo de Santa Cruz, its port, and the magical landscapes of Monte Santa Trega. On the hill of this mountain lies the Castro de Santa Trega, a Galician settlement with an archaeological museum. This ancient site, overlooking the Miño River, is characterized by the circular shape of its houses, a hallmark of the area’s historic settlements. The landscapes surrounding it, spanning two countries, are unique.

Next, we will cross the border into Portugal to visit the fortress of Valença do Minho. Here, we will marvel at its impressive moats and walls. Depending on our arrival time, we might stay to enjoy their traditional codfish dishes.

Our final stop will be in Tui, a city full of history. Highlights include the Monte Aloia Natural Park, its cathedral, the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Tui, and its beautiful landscapes.

After the visit, we will return to Baiona. If we still have energy, we can explore the town, wander its streets, try its exquisite cuisine, or enjoy its beach. The most notable activities in Baiona are its nautical offerings. Additionally, its old town has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site.

We will end the day with a delicious dinner and spend the night at our designated accommodation.

  • Day 3: Guided Tour Vigo - Parador de Cambados

After resting at the accommodation in Baiona and enjoying a good breakfast, we will check out and head towards Cambados.

On the way, we will stop in Vigo for a guided tour of the city. Its main attraction is its fishing neighborhoods, especially the Casco Vello de Bouzas, with its small port, its lighthouse, its urban beach, and its beautiful seaside promenade. From here, passing by the famous Sireno Statue, it is possible to reach the old town to wander its cobbled streets. Additionally, just a few meters away, you will find the famous Oyster Street, where you can taste the world-renowned oysters from the Vigo Estuary.

We recommend strolling leisurely, discovering the most emblematic monuments, the wonderful old town, and enjoying the exquisite local cuisine.

Once we have completed our itinerary in Vigo, we will continue our journey to Cambados. Upon arriving at our destination, and depending on the time, we may dedicate the rest of the day to relaxing at the Parador de Cambados, where we will stay for the next few days.

The Parador de Cambados is located in the old Pazo de Bazán, an elegant 17th-century manor house surrounded by the beautiful coastal landscapes of the Rías Baixas. Its rooms are bright and comfortable, and it features a lovely inner courtyard with a terrace, perfect for relaxing.

This is an exceptional accommodation due to its architecture, history, and surroundings, making it a unique experience.

We will spend our first night at our accommodation in Cambados.

  • Day 4: Traslatio Route - Cambados

Breakfast at the accommodation marks the start of Day 4. Once ready, we will head to Vilanova de Arousa, where the Traslatio begins.

The Traslatio narrates the story of how the Stone Boat transported the body of Apostle Santiago in a 7-day journey from Haifa (Palestine) to Iria Flavia (Padrón). Starting from the fishing village of Vilanova de Arousa, we will ascend the Ulla River, retracing the journey of the Apostle Santiago's remains in the Stone Boat. On this incredible experience, we will witness the world’s only maritime-fluvial Way of the Cross, consisting of 12 crosses located at the estuary and along the banks of the Ulla River, marking this unique Camino de Santiago route. We will sail the final stretch to reach Pontecesures, from where we will return to our accommodation.

Cambados offers an intriguing blend of a fishing village and elegance, as it is one of the main showcases of Galicia's manor houses.

Its old town has been declared a Historic-Artistic Monumental Site. Highlights include the Plaza and the Pazo de Fefiñáns, located in the nerve center of Cambados. Besides the Pazo, this square houses the Arco Puente and the Church of San Benito, all built in granite, making this architectural ensemble one of the most unique in Galicia.

Outside Cambados, the Ruins of Santa Mariña do Dozo are worth mentioning, reachable via a short walk. These ruins, built on a 12th-century Romanesque temple, provide such an idyllic image that they have become the city's most iconic landmark.

After a beautiful day, we will return to the accommodation to rest.

  • Day 5: Pilgrim Option - Lunch - Parador of Santiago

If we choose the "Pilgrim Option", our accommodation for the next two days will be the Reyes Católicos Parador in Santiago de Compostela. After breakfast and check-out, we will head to the capital of Galicia.

Upon arrival and check-in, we will spend the afternoon exploring our accommodation. The Reyes Católicos Parador is one of the most spectacular in the entire Paradores network. It is located in the Plaza do Obradoiro, flanked by the Santiago Cathedral, the University, and the Pazo de Raxoi. Staying here means staying in a truly unique and exclusive location. It was commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs as a pilgrims’ hospital in 1499, making it one of Spain's most luxurious and historic hotels. Inside, it features four cloisters, elegant rooms, beautiful suites, and a luxurious dining room.

When we are ready, we will head to the Santiago Abastos Market, which has been operating for the last three centuries and has become a leading center for fresh products. Here, in a typical city establishment, we will enjoy a tasting of Galician products, including cheeses and wines.

After lunch, we will have the afternoon free to enjoy our favorite activities or stroll through the city.

  • Day 5: Costa da Morte Option - Santiago de Compostela - Lunch - Parador of Muxía

We begin the day with breakfast at the Cambados accommodation, which we leave behind as we head towards Muxía with the "End of the World Option".

Along the way, we will stop in Santiago de Compostela to discover the city, visiting some of its most emblematic landmarks, such as the Santiago Cathedral, entering through its Portico of Glory, the Plaza de Platerías, the Plaza del Obradoiro, and the Reyes Católicos Parador.

Once the visit is complete, we will enjoy a gastronomic tasting near the Santiago Abastos Market. This is the second most visited spot in the city after the Cathedral and a must-visit to taste the essence of the region.

After lunch, we will continue our journey to Muxía, where we will check in at the Parador of Muxía. We will dedicate the afternoon to exploring our accommodation.

The Parador of Muxía (also known as the Parador of Costa da Morte) is the newest addition to the Paradores network. It is a modern design structure that breaks away from the classic decoration of other Paradores. Located on the Praia de Lourido, the building blends perfectly with the natural slope, featuring two panoramic elevators that move diagonally. Situated by the sea, it boasts an infinity pool offering unparalleled views.

We will spend the night in Muxía at the chosen accommodation.

  • Day 6: Pilgrim Option - Guided Tour Santiago

Second day at the Santiago accommodation. After breakfast, we will prepare to experience the European Pilgrimage Capital through a guided tour. This tour will explore the Historic Center of Santiago de Compostela, starting at the Santiago Cathedral and continuing through its squares and most notable landmarks.

During the tour, we will learn about the most representative aspects of the city's culture and history and also have the opportunity to consult our guides about their favorite spots. These experts know every corner of this historic center, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for nearly 40 years.

After the tour, we will have the afternoon free to explore what we liked most or to take a leisurely stroll through the city.

  • Day 7: Breakfast and End of Services

On the following morning, we will have breakfast and check out of the accommodation. If we opted for a rental vehicle, we will return it to the designated location (train station or airport).

We wish you a pleasant return and hope these days in Galicia have left unforgettable memories.
