The Galician Rías Altas are famous for their stunning landscapes of cliffs, strategic lighthouses, capes, marvellous Atlantic surroundings, crystal-clear beaches, and iconic cities like A Coruña.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Origin – A Coruña

On the first day, depending on the chosen mode of transport (own car or rental car), we will head to the accommodation in A Coruña. The city has an airport, port, train station, and direct motorways, so if you opt to travel with your own car, there will be no issues reaching the city and checking in at the reserved accommodation. If you choose the car rental option, we will collect the car at the designated location (airport or train station) and then proceed to the accommodation.

Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to rest or start exploring A Coruña. This first day is entirely dedicated to getting to know the city. We will begin with a guided tour to discover the most iconic spots.

We recommend visiting the Tower of Hercules, a magnificent Roman lighthouse declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. We will stroll through its sculpture park and enjoy its panoramic views. We will then head to Maria Pita Square, with its iconic City Hall, and explore the old town, where we will find charming spots like the Romantic Garden of San Carlos, the Castle of San Antón, the Santa Maria del Campo Collegiate Church, and Las Bárbaras Square.

If time allows, we will end the day with a walk along the marina and the city markets, taking the opportunity to sample the excellent local cuisine, renowned for its seafood and Atlantic coast products.

We will spend the night at the designated accommodation, resting to prepare for the second day.

  • Day 2: A Coruña – Betanzos – Pontedeume – Fragas do Eume – Ferrol

Breakfast at the accommodation in A Coruña and departure towards Betanzos, one of the historical gems of Galicia.

In Betanzos, we will visit its impressive old town, highlighting Ponte Vella, the Convent of the Augustinian Recollects, the medieval walls, and Constitution Square, part of the city’s historic-artistic ensemble.

Next, we head to Pontedeume, where we can stop at Pazo de Mariñán, known for its beautiful gardens. Once in Pontedeume, we will cross the long Stone Bridge over the Eume River and see the imposing Andrade Tower. Here, depending on the available time, we can decide whether to continue the route or enjoy a meal in Ferrol.

If time allows, Fragas do Eume is a must-visit. This temperate Atlantic forest is one of the best-preserved examples of flora and fauna conservation in Europe, considered a true natural paradise.

In Ferrol, we will enjoy the exquisite local cuisine. You can explore the old town, visit the Naval Museum, explore the Castle of San Felipe, or walk through the lovely Main Square.

If we still have time, we can stop at Andrade Castle, a small yet well-preserved fortress overlooking the Leboreiro Valley. The views from there are spectacular.

After a day filled with history, nature, and gastronomy, we will return to A Coruña, where we will dine and rest to prepare for the third day of the tour.

  • Day 3: A Coruña – Malpica – Camariñas – Muxía – Fisterra – Muxía (Costa da Morte)

We start the day with breakfast at the accommodation and head towards Malpica de Bergantiños, the first stop on this fascinating tour of the Costa da Morte. This famous coast, known for its history of shipwrecks and spectacular cliffs, takes us along winding roads that offer breathtaking views of fishing villages, capes, and cliffs, where even the most experienced sailors in history struggled to avoid disaster.

Malpica de Bergantiños is a picturesque coastal town with a harbor and tranquil beaches. However, our main stop here will be at the Miradoiro de Santo Adrián, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Sisargas Islands. We can also visit the base of the Punta Nariga Lighthouse, one of the architectural gems of the coast.

On our way to Camariñas, we will stop at another iconic lighthouse, the Roncudo Lighthouse. Although the lighthouse itself is simple, the true spectacle is in its surroundings. Here, the sea crashes violently against the cliffs, while the views of the Corme and Laxe Estuary leave us speechless with their wild beauty.

We continue south to Camariñas, a quiet village where we can stroll through its streets. Nearby is the Cape Vilán Lighthouse, famous for its dramatic history, as it witnessed several shipwrecks, including the tragic sinking of the Serpent. The area is known for its impressive beauty but also for the harshness of its waters and its maritime tragedies.

Once ready to continue, we will head to Muxía, where we will check in at the selected accommodation. Here, you can enjoy a quiet meal at one of the town’s restaurants and take a relaxing walk. Don’t miss the Muxía Lighthouse, an iconic spot, or the Santuario da Virxe da Barca, a place of great spiritual and cultural significance in the region.

We will end the day resting at the designated hotel, spending the night in this charming town.

  • Day 4: Muxía – Touriñán Lighthouse – Finisterre – Ézaro Waterfall – Caldeiras do Castro

We start the day with breakfast at the hotel and head to the Touriñán Lighthouse, one of the most iconic points on the Costa da Morte. Like all the lighthouses along this coast, the surroundings are truly spectacular, with dramatic cliffs and magical landscapes that invite reflection.

On our way to Finisterre, it is highly recommended to stop at the Fisterra Viewpoint, offering stunning views of the town and its surroundings. Upon arriving in Finisterre, we will visit its Lighthouse, a place full of history and legends. In ancient times, it was considered the "Finis Terrae", or the end of the world, where many believed the sun extinguished itself in the ocean at the end of each day.

This is a place filled with legends, fantasy, and an atmosphere that leaves no one indifferent. After enjoying the landscape, if time allows, we can continue our route to the wonderful Ézaro Waterfall or stop for lunch in Finisterre. If we choose to continue, we can make a stop in Cee, a charming coastal town perfect for a meal near its beaches.

The Ézaro Waterfall is a must-see. You can walk along its wooden pathways and admire the splendor of the landscape from the viewpoints. Additionally, it’s an ideal spot for water sports enthusiasts, with kayaks available for rent to get closer to the waterfall and see it from a unique perspective.

If time allows, on our way back we can stop at Caldeiras do Castro, a natural paradise where you can relax and enjoy a dip in its natural pools of cold water. It’s the perfect place to disconnect, surrounded by nature, and you can also visit the local chapel or take a break in its picnic area.

We will finish this intense and exciting day by returning to Muxía, where we can have dinner and rest, preparing for the next day of the tour.

  • Day 5: Muros – Noia – Santiago – Origin

We start the day with breakfast at the hotel and head towards Santiago, passing through Muros. Upon arrival in Muros, we will stop to enjoy this picturesque fishing village, famous for its beaches, such as Area Maior Beach, a nearly untouched location with spectacular views of Monte Louro. We can also visit its harbor and local market before continuing towards Noia.

If you wish to take a detour, you can cross the Ponte Nafonso to visit the Tambre Hydroelectric Power Plant, also known as the Hydroelectric Cathedral. Here, you can see its fisherman’s refuge and cross the picturesque suspension bridge, offering impressive views of the landscape.

In Noia, you can take a leisurely stroll through the town, visiting the San Martín de Noia Parish and Constitution Square. This is a well-known place for its shellfish tradition, particularly cockles and clams, making it an ideal spot to pause and enjoy its delicious local cuisine.

After exploring Noia, we head directly to Santiago de Compostela, where we will check in at the selected hotel. You’ll have the afternoon free to enjoy the city at your own pace, whether strolling through its charming streets or simply relaxing at the hotel.

We will spend the night at the accommodation and prepare for the final day of this wonderful adventure.

  • Day 6: Santiago de Compostela

We start the day with breakfast in Santiago de Compostela and prepare to enjoy a city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site almost 40 years ago. We will begin with a guided tour of the most emblematic places in the city, of which there are many!

We will stop at Platerías Square, a place full of history, then walk down Acibechería Street, the final street pilgrims walk before reaching the Obradoiro Square. In this square, we will admire the Parador of the Catholic Monarchs and, of course, enter the majestic Santiago Cathedral through the Pórtico de la Gloria, visiting its most interesting spots and, of course, embracing the Saint.

For lunch, we will dine in the city, where we can try its delicious traditional cuisine, including dishes like caldo gallego, pulpo a la gallega, raxos, cheeses, and a wide variety of wines.

We will end the day resting at the accommodation, enjoying a well-deserved night in this fascinating city.

  • Day 7: Breakfast and end of services.

On the following morning, we will have breakfast and check out from the accommodation. If you opted for a rental vehicle, it will be returned at the designated location (train station or airport).

We wish you a pleasant return journey and hope these days in Galicia have left unforgettable memories in your heart.
