Itinerary
  • Day 1. Arrival in Caldas de Reis

If your arrival is at the Santiago de Compostela airport or train station and you have chosen the rental vehicle option, you will pick up the car at the designated location. If you are traveling with your own vehicle, you will go directly to Caldas de Reis.

Located halfway between Santiago and Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis is near A Baxe, next to the reservoir. With your own car or at your leisure, you will arrive at the Hotel Torre do Río, where you will enjoy your first night’s rest in a pazo that will host you for two nights.

This first day will be dedicated to the check-in at your pazo and resting as needed, depending on the journey. If the arrival time allows and you feel energetic, you can explore the surroundings of the hotel. You will find the Caldas Reservoir and its dam, or you can visit Caldas de Reis to see the Thermal Spring of the Burgas, famous for its thermal waters, or explore one of the local spas.

Either way, this first day is free, meant to enjoy a relaxing day and recharge for the following days. First night to sleep in the assigned pazo in Caldas de Reis.

  • Day 2. Vilagarcía de Arousa – O Grove – La Toja – Sanxenxo - Accommodation at Pazo in Caldas de Reis

Breakfast at the hotel, with the wonderful views offered by the complex. Once you’ve recharged your energy, you will start the first route of this second day. With your own car, you will travel through 4 towns before returning to the pazo for your second night in this special place. Excluding time for visits, the drive will take around 1h 45min, with a distance of 109 km.

The suggested route is as follows:

Vilagarcía de Arousa

You will take the N-640 towards Vilagarcía de Arousa. Before arriving, we recommend stopping at the Pazo de Baión, a former pazo of the drug trafficker Laureano Oubiña, and at the Pazo de Rubiáns, a French-style place with gardens, vineyards, and wineries where you can taste albariño accompanied by some cheese.

Once in Vilagarcía de Arousa, you will enjoy the charming beaches of the town, its pazos, and the port. You can stroll through the Augustinian nuns convent and the Pazo de Vista Alegre, which, although you cannot visit inside, has a distinctive exterior that reflects the Galician civil architecture.

Vilagarcía is not the only town with pazos. You can also admire the Pazo de O Rial, the Pazo do Castriño, and the Pazo da Golpelleira, many of which are repurposed as hotels or event venues like weddings.

O Grove and La Toja

From Vilagarcía, you will take the VG-4.3 southward, and if you wish, you can detour to Cambados to see the charming Pazo de Montesacro. If you prefer to continue, take the AG-41 and the VG-4.1, which will take you to O Grove and La Toja Island in about 35 minutes by car.

Before reaching O Grove and La Toja, you will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful Playa de la Lanzada, known for the excellent quality of its sand. O Grove and La Toja are separated by the La Toja Bridge, and this area is perfect for walking along its beaches, enjoying the forest park, and the sea views. Depending on available time, you can taste the local gastronomy at one of the many seafood restaurants, grills, or tapas bars in the area.

If you want to relax before continuing your trip, in La Toja, you will find the Talaso Hotel Louxo la Toja with thalassotherapy treatments, or the Eurostars Gran Hotel la Toja, a 5-star hotel with balneotherapy.

Sanxenxo

From O Grove, you will take a slight detour at O Vinquiño, and in just 17 minutes, you will reach Sanxenxo. This town is perfect for enjoying its beaches, viewpoints, and marinas. If you didn’t visit the Thalasso in La Toja, you will also find options like the Hotel Carlos I Silgar, the Gran Talaso Hotel Sanxenxo, or the Hotel Augusta Spa Resort Superior in Sanxenxo for relaxation.

Moreover, Sanxenxo is an excellent place to enjoy Galician cuisine at its bars, restaurants, and taverns. You can stroll through its maritime port and the beach while enjoying the excellent gastronomic offer of the region.

This second day offers you a complete route through some of the most representative places of the Ría de Arousa, where you can enjoy the nature, history, and Galician gastronomy, before returning to the pazo in Caldas de Reis for rest.

  • Day 3. Guided tour of Pontevedra

Breakfast at the Caldas de Reis hotel and end of services.

Connecting N-640 with AP-9 southward, or N-550, we will head towards the next accommodation in Vigo. Before reaching Vigo, we will stop in Pontevedra, which is only 30 minutes by car.

The city of Pontevedra gets its name from the Latin, "old bridge," and is one of the most important spots along the Portuguese Camino de Santiago. We will enjoy a guided tour through the old town of the city, where we will admire numerous chapels, squares, convents, ruins, and museums. Pontevedra is a city that invites you to stroll leisurely, enjoying its beautiful landscapes and relaxed atmosphere.

During the visit, we will explore the Pazo de Mugartegui, a baroque stone building carved by local stonecutters, highlighting the large noble coat of arms adorning its facade. We will also explore the Pazo de Lourizán, an abandoned pazo surrounded by impressive gardens. This French romantic-style pazo is truly spectacular and offers the perfect place to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the architecture.

After the visit, you can choose to taste the local gastronomy at the city's restaurants or, if you prefer, head directly to your accommodation in Vigo, where we will check in and, if desired, you can dine there.

  • Day 4. Vigo – Cíes Islands

Breakfast at the Vigo accommodation and the start of the fourth day in Galicia.

Depending on the selected time to take the ferry to the Cíes Islands, we can either take a stroll through Vigo or head directly to its maritime port.

The Cíes Islands, part of the Atlantic Islands National Park, are paradisiacal islands in perfect harmony and balance between tourism and the preserved ecosystem. They have some of the best beaches in Europe and the world, with the spectacular Playa de Rodas being an ideal place to relax.

On the islands, there are two restaurants where you can eat. A prior reservation is recommended due to high demand.

The return to Vigo will depend on the return schedule from the islands. If you have time, you can enjoy the city, visiting some of its most interesting points.

Vigo has a very interesting old town and the Castle of San Sebastián, located on the Monte del Castro. You can also visit the Contemporary Art Museum M.A.R.C.O., the fishing port, one of the most important in the world, or the Pazo de Castrelos, which houses the Quiñones de León Museum. Another relevant place is the Pazo de San Roque.

Finally, you will return to the hotel to enjoy the second night in this pleasant complex.

  • Day 5. Baiona – Accommodation in Pazo or Talaso

Breakfast at the Vigo Pazo and departure from the hotel to continue on the N-552 or N-550 southwards, connecting with AG-57 towards Baiona. The journey will last about 40 minutes.

The accommodation in Baiona may vary according to your preferences. You can opt for a hotel-thalasso if you wish to enjoy thalassotherapy treatments, or choose the Parador de Baiona, located in an incredible bay on the Monterreal Peninsula, an elegant walled building by the sea. Another option is staying at a charming pazo, like the Pazo Mendoza, depending on availability on the selected dates.

This day is meant to enjoy Baiona, rest, and try its exquisite gastronomy, or spend a relaxing day at the beach or enjoy a relaxing bath at the thalasso.

The most notable features in Baiona are its beaches and nautical activities. Its old town was declared a Historical-Artistic Site, making it a perfect place to explore on foot.

We will spend the night in the assigned accommodation.

  • Day 6. Baiona – Castro Santa Trega – La Guardia – Tui – Valença do Minho

Breakfast at the hotel, start of our sixth day.

We will head towards La Guardia, taking the PO-552, a coastal road. We will make a stop at the Castro de Santa Tecla, located at the southwestern tip of Galicia, a privileged place from which you can overlook the entire mouth of the Miño River. The castro is a walled settlement that preserves the original layout of the Celtic settlements. Within the site, there is an archaeological museum that displays the remains of the cultures that settled here.

After this heartfelt visit, we will head towards Tui, a city that offers a lot to explore. Some of the highlights include the Monte Aloia Natural Park, the Catedral de Tui, the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Tui, and a series of churches and fascinating landscapes.

Finally, crossing the border via the bridge that connects Spain and Portugal, we will visit the fortress of Valença in Portugal. There, you will admire its imposing moats and walls, dating back to the Middle Ages. If time allows, you can stay to try the traditional Portuguese bacalhau.

After finishing this visit, we will return to the complex in Baiona, where we will have dinner and rest.

  • Day 7: Breakfast and end of services

The following morning, we will have breakfast and check out of the accommodation. If we opted for a rental car, we will return it at the designated location (train station or airport).
