Discover Ourense: stone, water, and wine

Ourense, known as the city of stone and water, is a destination that combines history and natural beauty. From its eight bridges, which span the mighty Miño River, to its majestic cathedral, one of the most emblematic monuments of Roman heritage in Galicia, this city invites you to explore and experience it intensely.

But Ourense is not only renowned for its architectural wealth and thermal waters; it is also celebrated for its winemaking tradition. The Ribeiro Designation of Origin, the oldest in Galicia and one of the historic ones in Europe, is a living testament to this heritage spanning more than 1,000 years.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Arrival and Free Time in Ourense

Upon arrival at the selected establishment in Ourense, we will proceed with Check-In to begin our stay. This first day is dedicated to rest and acclimatisation, ideal for organising your luggage, relaxing at the hotel, and enjoying a leisurely walk. You may explore the surroundings, soak in the local atmosphere, or simply unwind to recharge and be ready for a second day full of activities and discoveries.

  • Day 2: Winery Visit, Free Afternoon, and Traditional Dinner

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we will embark on a unique experience: a visit to a winery in the D.O. Ribeiro, where we will enjoy a wine tasting showcasing the region's tradition and quality. There is also the option to extend this activity with a gastronomic tasting of seasonal local products carefully selected to complement the wines. If preferred, or if the schedule allows, this experience can be rescheduled for the third day after breakfast, according to the client's preferences.

In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore Ourense, known as "The Great Forgotten City". We suggest:

  • Walking along the Miño River, crossing its iconic bridges, from the arches of the Puente Mayor to the modern structures of the Millennium Bridge.
  • Visiting the impressive Cathedral of San Martiño, famous for its Portico of Paradise, renowned for its vibrant colours and artistic details.
  • Exploring the Historic Quarter and its unique Main Square, noted for its surprising slope.
  • Strolling down the Wine Street, the perfect place to enjoy tapas and experience the local vibe.
  • Visiting Alameda Park and the historic Church of Santa Eufemia.

In the evening, we will enjoy a tasting dinner highlighting the region's rich gastronomy. Although Ourense is an inland province, it is famous for its specialties such as pulpo á feira (octopus), lamprey, and eels from the Miño River, as well as Galician beef. Essential dishes also include empanadas, artisan breads, and typical vegetables like grelos (turnip greens) and berza (collard greens). Dinner will take place in a selected restaurant, where you can savour a variety of local products that capture the essence of Galician cuisine.

  • Day 3: Breakfast, Ribadavia, and Farewell

On the final day of our getaway, we will enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the hotel before proceeding with Check-Out. If time allows, you can make the most of the morning by visiting Ribadavia, located just 20 minutes away by car. This charming town is renowned for hosting one of the largest medieval fortresses in Galicia and for its significant legacy tied to wine.

If time permits, you may explore other corners of the region before concluding this unforgettable experience.

We wish you a safe journey home and hope you enjoyed these days in Galicia.

Have a pleasant journey back home!
