O Grove and the Island of La Toja: Relaxation and Gastronomy All Year Round

O Grove and the Island of La Toja offer unforgettable experiences at any time of the year, especially if you're looking for relaxation and disconnection.

In the warmer months, their beaches and small coves allow you to enjoy the best of the Ría's waters in an environment free from crowds. However, any time is ideal to explore the main attraction of O Grove: its extraordinary offering of seafood and fish.

Events like the acclaimed Seafood Festival, held in October, and the Spider Crab Festival in December are examples of its gastronomic richness.

The region also invites you to explore its beaches, mountains, and cliffs, where the salty aroma of the sea is always present. In terms of cultural heritage, the unique chapel of the Island of La Toja, covered with scallop shells and located in the heart of the island, stands out.

A getaway full of possibilities for all tastes.

Itinerary
  • Day 1. Arrival at the selected establishment in O Grove

Upon your arrival at the selected establishment in O Grove, we will proceed with the Check-In and prepare to enjoy a few days of rest, culture, and Galician gastronomy.

If time and our energy permit, we can take a stroll around the town and visit monumental places like the hermitage of the Island of La Toja or historical sites such as the Castro do Adro Vello.

If time is more limited, we can choose to relax peacefully at the hotel to be as rested as possible for the next day, which will be more active.

  • Day 2. Breakfast at our hotel. Seafood Platter. Free afternoon.

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we will set out to explore O Grove. We cannot miss the wooden walkway of Pedras Negras nor the impressive hermitage of La Lanzada, built in the 17th century. Very close by is the Castro de La Lanzada, with the excavated remains of an ancient necropolis. A fascinating place, especially for the little ones, is La Aldea de los Grobits. This original children's park, located in the middle of the mountain on the Island of La Toja, recreates Hobbiton, the home of the Hobbits.

Once ready, we will enjoy an essential seafood platter to savor the essence of the region. The gastronomy of O Grove focuses on the fresh products from its estuaries. Lobster, Norway lobster, cockles, scallops, razor clams, prawns, king prawns, and crab will be some of the delicacies offered, accompanied by wines with Denomination of Origin. Guests can enjoy a splendid seafood platter, tasting different local products in a selected restaurant. If there are any intolerances or if the guests' preferences differ, an alternative menu can be offered according to their wishes.

After this gastronomic experience and a well-deserved rest, we will enjoy the free afternoon to savor what we liked most about the city or explore the peninsula.

  • Day 3. Breakfast at our hotel. End of services or extra option: Mussel Route

This is the last day of our getaway, unless the guest has decided to extend it.

We will wake up after enjoying the hotel's amenities and have a leisurely breakfast. We will proceed with the Check-Out, but if the extension of the getaway has been chosen, we will undertake an additional experience: the Mussel Route.

We will set out to explore the beautiful landscapes of the Ría de Arousa, aboard a catamaran departing from the O Grove pier. This guided excursion will take us to discover the coasts, islands, and the unique bateas—floating platforms for cultivating mussels, oysters, and scallops.

We will learn about the traditional fishing methods of the area while observing the seabed through underwater viewing. We will finish with a delicious tasting of steamed mussels, accompanied by local wine or a soft drink.

At the end of the route, we can take advantage of the afternoon to discover the surroundings and visit some of the area's viewpoints, such as the Siradella viewpoint.

We will return to the hotel to spend our last night in the region.

  • Day 4. Breakfast at our hotel. End of services

This last day we will wake up and have breakfast at the hotel. We will proceed with the Check-Out and conclude our getaway.

We wish you a safe journey back and hope you have enjoyed these days in Galicia.

Have a safe trip home!
