Gastronomic Getaway in Santiago de Compostela

Discover the monumental city of Santiago de Compostela, where culture and gastronomy come together in an unforgettable experience.

The most important temple in Galicia, and undoubtedly one of the most significant in Spain and Europe, is considered one of the birthplaces of European pilgrimage.

Legend has it that a hermit named Pelayo saw a strange light in the sky. This phenomenon, confirmed by Bishop Teodomiro of Iria before King Alfonso II of Asturias, led to the construction of a small chapel. Later, during the reign of Alfonso III, this chapel was replaced by a church, which was burned down after an attack by Arab troops led by Almanzor.

At the beginning of the second millennium, in 1075, the construction of the current Catedral de Santiago de Compostela began, one of the most iconic places of worship in global Christianity.

The gastronomic offerings in Santiago de Compostela stand out for their richness and variety, typical of Galician cuisine. During the experience, guests will enjoy a tasting of Galician products in a carefully selected venue, where the details of the products being sampled will be explained.

Itinerary
  • Day 1. Arrival in Santiago de Compostela and free afternoon to explore

Upon arriving at the selected accommodation in Santiago de Compostela, we will proceed with the Check-In and prepare to enjoy Galician culture and gastronomy.

This first day will be taken as free time to settle in, unpack, and relax. You can stroll through the city at your own pace, exploring its streets and taking a general first look. After this free afternoon, we’ll return to the hotel to rest and recharge for a more active second day.

  • Day 2. Breakfast, gastronomic tasting, and free afternoon

After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we will embark on a morning visit to the city.

We’ll explore locations such as the Catedral Museum, discovering its archaeological rooms, the Library, the Chapter Hall, the Balcony, the Cloister, and the Cemetery. We will also access the interior of the cathedral to visit the Pórtico de la Gloria and walk through the naves of the Catedral de Santiago. A monumental tour of the city’s iconic spots, including the old town, the University of Santiago, and other monasteries, parks, and walks that Santiago offers, is highly recommended.

After our tour, we will enjoy a gastronomic tasting featuring various typical products from the region to better understand Galician cuisine.

This itinerary can be adjusted to suit the client’s preferences and requests, allowing for a personalised experience.

After the tasting and a well-deserved rest, the afternoon will be free to further explore the parts of the city that caught our interest or to take a leisurely stroll.

At the end of this cultural and gastronomic day, we’ll have dinner and close the day relaxing at the hotel.

  • Day 3. Breakfast, end of services, or additional option: Excursion to Finisterre or Ría de Arousa

This is our final day, unless the client has chosen to extend their getaway.

We’ll wake up after enjoying the comforts of the hotel and have a leisurely breakfast. We’ll then proceed with Check-Out, marking the end of our getaway if the client has opted for the basic package.

For those who have decided to extend their stay, we’ll embark on an additional excursion with two fantastic options: the excursion to Finisterre or the excursion to Ría de Arousa.

Finisterre, once known as the end of the world, is where pilgrims arriving in Compostela encounter the vastness of the ocean. We recommend a stop at the Finisterre Lighthouse, the most important on the Costa da Morte, which guides ships through its treacherous waters.

The Ría de Arousa is Galicia’s largest estuary. Beautiful in winter and vibrant in summer, it’s one of those regions that always invites a return, thanks to its landscape, people, and gastronomy.

Upon arrival in the area, we suggest visiting Cambados, with its excellent Historical-Artistic Ensemble, or the Illa de Arousa, renowned for its spectacular beaches. You can also visit O Grove and its harbour along Avenida Beiramar, an ideal spot to enjoy excellent seafood at its many seafood restaurants.

After this day, we’ll return to the hotel to rest.

  • Day 4. Breakfast, end of services

On this final day, we’ll wake up and have breakfast at the hotel. We’ll then proceed with Check-Out, marking the official end of our getaway.

We wish you a pleasant return journey and hope you have enjoyed your time in Galicia.

Have a safe trip home!
