Gastronomic getaway to the monumental city of Santiago de Compostela where we can enjoy both its culture and its gastronomy.
The sacred temple is the most important in Galicia and without a doubt this makes it one of the most important in Spain and Europe as it is one of the cradles of the European pilgrimage. Legend has it that a hermit known as Pelayo sighted a strange light in the sky. This fact, verified before King Alfonso II of Asturias by Bishop Teodomiro de Iria, led to the construction of a small chapel that, during the reign of Alfonso III, became a church burned by the Arab troops commanded by Almanzor.
At the beginning of the second millennium, in 1075, the construction of the current Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela began, one of the most representative places of worship for world Christianity.
The gastronomy that we will find in Santiago will be very varied within the wide Galician cuisine. The client will be able to taste different products, all of them Galician products in a selected place with an explanation of the products to be tasted.
Day 1. Arrival in Santiago de Compostela and free afternoon to visit it
Upon arrival at the chosen hotel, we will check-in and get ready to enjoy Galician culture and gastronomy.
This day we will take it as free time to pack our luggage and relax around the city, visiting it calmly with a walk and giving a good overview of the city and its streets. After this free afternoon we will relax at the hotel to have strength and you are well rested for the next day with more movement.
Day 2. Breakfast, gastronomic tasting. Free afternoon
After enjoying a typical Galician breakfast at our hotel, in the morning we will go to visit the city.
We will be able to visit places such as the Cathedral Museum, where we will visit the archaeological rooms, the Library and Chapter House, the Balcony, the Cloister and the Cemetery.
We can also access the interior of the temple. We will visit the Pórtico de la Gloria, touring the naves of the Cathedral. We recommend making a monumental visit to the most emblematic and unknown places of the city from the old town to the University of Santiago or monasteries, parks and walks that Santiago has.
Once our walk is finished, we will enjoy a gastronomic tasting where there will be different typical products of the area to enjoy and better understand the gastronomy of the region.
* This visit allows variations in the itinerary according to the requests and tastes of the client.
Finish the meal and well rested, we will have the afternoon free to enjoy what you have liked the most in the city or to walk around the city freely. Once this cultural and gastronomic experience is over, we will have dinner and end this beautiful day at the hotel.
Day 3. Breakfast, end of services or Optional: Excursion to Finisterre or Ría de Arousa
This is our last day (if the client chooses) of our getaway.
We will get up after enjoying the hotel's comforts and have a leisurely breakfast. We will do the Check-Out at our hotel and we will be able to finish our getaway if the client has chosen the basic getaway.
If we have chosen to extend it one more day, we will have one more experience, where we will have two incredible options between the excursion to Finisterre or the Ría de Arousa.
Finisterre, the end of the ancient world. Place where the pilgrims who come to Compostela meet the immensity of the ocean. We recommend a stop at the lighthouse, the most important on the Costa da Morte, which guides ships through its dangerous waters.
The Ría de Arousa is the largest estuary in Galicia. Beautiful in winter and fully in summer, this is one of those areas of the community that, if you know, you end up returning to it, such is the effect that its landscape, its surroundings, its people and its gastronomy have on the visitor.
Once in the area, we recommend visiting Cambados with its excellent Historic-Artistic Complex, as well as the Illa de Arousa, with its spectacular beaches. You can also visit O-Grove and get to know its port located on Beiramar avenue. It is a good place to eat, this municipality has many seafood restaurants, we recommend that those who like seafood do not hesitate to enjoy this good time. We will rest at the hotel.
Day 4 Breakfast, end of services
This last day we will get up and have breakfast at the hotel. We will carry out the Check-Out and we will be able to end our getaway. We wish you a safe trip back and that you have enjoyed these days in Galicia.
Have a safe journey home!
