Discover the Camellia Route: History and Nature in Galicia

An escape designed to enjoy the finest wineries located in idyllic Pazos full of history.

We will explore various Galician Pazos along the Camellia Route, a journey that will allow us to learn about the region's history, its monuments, and its people.

The Camellia Route takes us to spectacular gardens, characterised by an abundance of these fascinating flowers. Their history dates back more than 5,000 years in China, and in Japan, the Tsubaki, as they are called, translates to "tree with shiny leaves." These flowers likely arrived in Galicia thanks to Portuguese navigators, adding an exotic touch to the region's gardens.

During this experience, we will visit charming locations and enjoy wines with a designation of origin produced in these historic Pazos.

Itinerary
  • Day 1. Arrival at a traditional Galician rural accommodation

Upon arrival at the selected establishment, we will proceed with Check-In and prepare to start exploring the area. This first day will be free time to settle in, unpack, and relax in the rural surroundings, enjoying the tranquillity and beauty of the Galician landscape.

  • Day 2. Pazo Rubianes – Sunset at the Arousa Estuary – Return to the accommodation

After a delicious breakfast at our accommodation, we will head to our first destination: Pazo de Rubianes.

This pazo, built in the 15th century, is an impressive example of French style, resembling a petit Château, and is one of the region's main attractions. Upon arrival, you will be captivated by its incredible gardens, where you can explore up to 800 catalogued species of camellias across 16 hectares of land. Recently restored, the pazo boasts an impressive appearance, making it a must-visit.

In its wineries, we will enjoy a tasting of Albariño wine, one of the region’s treasures. After the visit and tasting, we will head to the coast to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets in Galicia. The Arousa Estuary, the largest of Galicia's estuaries, offers an unforgettable landscape, with the sunset among the bateas (mussel rafts) and mariñeiras (fishing boats) providing a unique experience.

We will return to the accommodation to rest after this day of exploration.

  • Day 3. Breakfast and end of services or optional: Excursion to Pazos Señorans and Quinteiro da Cruz

This is the last day of our getaway unless the client has chosen to extend the experience.

We will wake up after enjoying the comforts of the hotel and have a leisurely breakfast. We will then proceed with Check-Out. If the client has opted for the extended option, we will embark on a new excursion, including visits to two wonderful pazos and another wine tasting.

The first stop will be Pazo Señorans, where we will take a tour of the winery and learn about the Albariño Designation of Origin. We will also visit the vineyards and the pazo, a typical Galician construction from the 16th century, concluding with a tasting of various local products.

Next, we will head to Pazo Quinteiro da Cruz, a true paradise of camellias. We will enjoy a pleasant walk through its gardens, where we will discover more than 500 different species of trees and shrubs, as well as over 5,000 camellia trees. During the tour, we will learn about the history and botanical uses of these plants and their significance in daily life.

At the end of the excursion, we will return to the hotel to rest.

  • Day 4. Breakfast and end of services

On our final day, we will wake up and have breakfast at the hotel. We will proceed with Check-Out, marking the end of our getaway.

We wish you a pleasant return journey and hope you have enjoyed these days in Galicia.

Have a safe trip home!
