Private circuit designed for small groups (of 2 to 8 people), including private transfers and a private driver for all visits. During this 7-day (6-night) journey, you will enjoy various locations and accommodations in the former Kingdom of León and southern Galicia. We will explore destinations such as León, Puebla de Sanabria, and Ourense.

The Kingdom of León was an independent medieval kingdom located in the northwest region of the Iberian Peninsula, covering the current provinces of León, Zamora, and Salamanca. From the year 910 to 1230, it was the main political power of the Peninsula, although, unfortunately, it is now one of the least known medieval kingdoms in Spain.

Thanks to this circuit, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in historical periods from Ancient Rome and the Middle Ages, discovering some of the most important cities of the time and admiring the wild and splendid nature of the Sanabria Lake National Park.

Itinerary
  • Day 1. ORIGIN – León

On the first day, our driver will pick you up at the airport or train station and take you to the designated accommodation in León. Upon arrival at the hotel, we will proceed with the check-in and get ready to enjoy the local culture.

This day will be free to settle in, organize your luggage, and relax with a walk, taking a general tour of the city and its streets. After this free afternoon, we will return to the hotel to rest and prepare for a more active day ahead.

  • Day 2. Guided Tour of León Cathedral

Second day at the selected accommodation. After a good breakfast, we will prepare to discover León.

We will begin the day with a guided tour of its cathedral, an exceptional Gothic temple renowned for having one of the largest collections of medieval stained glass windows in the world.

Afterward, on your own, you can visit some of the city's most emblematic spots, such as the Casa Botín, designed by Catalan architect Antonio Gaudí, the Palacio de los Guzmanes, and the Convento de San Marcos, which currently houses the Parador de Turismo.

For lunch, we recommend heading to the well-known district of El Húmedo, famous for its tapas bars, a deeply rooted tradition in León. Typical tapas and pintxos include cured meats, spicy fried potatoes, croquettes, and blood sausage.

After lunch, you will have the afternoon free to enjoy your favorite spots or take a leisurely walk.

  • Day 3. León - Sanabria Lake National Park - Puebla de Sanabria

After resting at the León accommodation and enjoying a good breakfast, we will check out, and our driver will be waiting to begin our full-day excursion to the Sanabria Lake National Park.

The park's jewel is the Sanabria Lake, the largest glacial lake in the Iberian Peninsula. It is surrounded by forests, predominantly of Pyrenean oak, and features numerous glacial-origin lagoons.

We will reach the lakeshore to enjoy the views and then head to the Laguna de Peces, renowned for its size. The road leading to the lagoon is narrow, with sharp curves overlooking valleys like the Forcadura River Canyon, with cliffs over 250 meters high. Along the way, we will stop at several viewpoints offering stunning perspectives of the lake and the region, including a stop at San Martín de Castañeda.

This picturesque spot near the lake was chosen by the Cistercian monks to build their monastery, now a Historical-Artistic Monument with remains from the 16th and 17th centuries. It was one of the largest religious complexes in the province until the 19th century.

The lake also inspired Miguel de Unamuno, who visited and admired it, drawing inspiration for his novel San Manuel Bueno, Martyr, as well as a poem dedicated to the region.

At the end of the excursion, our driver will take us to the accommodation in Puebla de Sanabria, where we will check in and rest.

  • Day 4. Guided Tour of Wolves / Sanabria Lake Catamaran / Puebla de Sanabria Castle

After breakfast at the Puebla accommodation, our driver will be available at the agreed time to start the day.

Depending on the season, we may have the option of a guided tour of the Iberian Wolf Center, consisting of two parts: a visit to the center's building and an outdoor tour of the observatories for observing semi-wild wolves, with wolf-handling sessions.

Alternatively, we can explore the glacial lakebed aboard the world's first wind-solar-powered catamaran. Its glass-covered deck allows you to observe the lake's geology, fauna, and flora, blending science and recreation with sustainable tourism.

If neither option is available or if we prefer another activity, we can choose to stay in Puebla and visit the Castle of the Counts of Benavente, a testament to the town's power during the Middle Ages due to its strategic location near Portugal.

Regardless of the chosen activity, the afternoon will be free to explore the charming streets of Puebla de Sanabria, a beautiful stone town declared a Historical-Artistic Site, frequently ranked among Spain's most beautiful villages.

  • Day 5. Puebla de Sanabria - Allariz - Outariz Hot Springs - Ourense

After having breakfast at the accommodation and completing the check-out, our driver will be ready to take us to Ourense.

On the way, we will stop at Allariz, a charming town awarded the European Urbanism Prize for the restoration of its historic center.

Next, we will head to Ourense, where we will dedicate the day to relaxing in its famous hot springs.

The Outariz Thermal Station, located on the banks of the Miño River, is inspired by the Japanese bathing culture, with wooden facilities integrated into the natural environment. The hot springs offer two types of thermal circuits (Celtic and Zen), featuring 11 outdoor pools and 3 indoor pools. Additionally, a variety of beauty treatments and massages can be booked.

Nearby, you can visit public open-air thermal areas along the Miño River, such as the Canedo Hot Springs and Muiño da Veiga.

Enjoy the thermal facilities surrounded by nature while admiring the beauty of the Miño River's banks.

At the end of the thermal experience, we will continue to Ourense for check-in at the accommodation and spend the afternoon exploring "The Great Forgotten City." Stroll along the Miño River and count all its bridges, from the Old Bridge to the Millennium Bridge. Visit the Cathedral, whose Portico of Paradise has earned it the title of World Heritage Site. Explore the historic center and enjoy delicious tapas at the Main Square, with its uniquely sloped pavement. Finally, visit the Alameda Park and the Church of Santa Eufemia.

After this eventful day, we will return to the accommodation to rest.

  • Day 6. Full-Day Excursion Ribeira Sacra - D.O. Ribeira Sacra Wineries - Sil River Catamaran

After breakfast at the accommodation, we will head to the Ribeira Sacra with our driver. This region is one of Spain's candidates for UNESCO World Heritage and was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 2021.

We will explore the key elements that define the region, such as its monumental structures. Ribeira Sacra is the European region with the highest concentration of rural Romanesque architecture, largely due to its 18 monasteries. Highlights include the San Pedro de Rocas Monastery, carved into the rock, and the Santo Estevo de Ribas de Sil Monastery, whose excellent condition offers a unique experience.

The area is also famous for its wine. Historical records show that large quantities of wine were shipped to the elite of the Roman Empire.

We will visit one of the most important wineries of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, where we will learn about the secrets of heroic viticulture and the local grape varieties, some of which are at risk of extinction. The tour will conclude with a wine tasting at an impressive balcony overlooking the Sil River Canyons.

Following the winery visit, we will board a catamaran to navigate the Sil River Canyon, admiring waterfalls of up to 500 meters and the centuries-old vineyards growing on the canyon slopes.

At the end of the excursion, our driver will take us back to the accommodation in Ourense, where we will check in and rest.

  • Day 7. End of the Circuit

After breakfast, we will check out, and depending on the departure time of your train or flight, our driver will take you to your departure point, either the airport or train station.

We wish you a pleasant return and hope that these days in Galicia and León have left unforgettable memories in your heart.
