Paradores de Turismo is a prestigious network of hospitality establishments in Spain, which has been managing nearly a hundred hotels across Spain (and one in Portugal) for almost a century, present in all autonomous communities.

What characterizes the Paradores de Turismo are the establishments where they are located. Iconic buildings selected for their historical, artistic, or cultural interest. Castles, Palaces, Convents, Monasteries, modern buildings, or natural spaces.

These settings allow visitors to discover part of Spanish history, as they are spread throughout the country, with a focus on Andalusia, Castile and León, and Galicia. The latter has 12 Paradores, several of which are in the TOP 20 in the ranking published by the chain.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Origin - Parador of Baiona

On the first day, our driver will pick you up at the train station or the agreed meeting point, and we will head to the designated accommodation. We will check in and, depending on the arrival time and the necessary rest, we will have the opportunity to explore the surroundings of the Parador of Baiona, which will be our accommodation for the next two days.

We will enjoy an unforgettable experience staying in a medieval fortress. The building, newly constructed but located in a historical site, is situated in a privileged location on the Monterreal Peninsula. Despite the elegance of its rooms and spaces, the highlight of the Parador is the stunning views of the ocean. We recommend walking through its walled gardens or enjoying a drink while watching a unique sunset.

After this first day, we will rest at the accommodation to prepare for the next day full of activities.

  • Day 2: A Guarda - Castro Santa Trega - Valença do Minho - Tui

On the second day of our stay in Baiona, after a delicious breakfast, we will prepare for an excursion along the oldest border in Europe, which divides Galicia and Portugal, marked by the Miño River.

Our driver will pick us up at the agreed time and take us to A Guarda, a picturesque Galician village where, following the coastline, we can enjoy spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. In A Guarda, highlights include the Castelo de Santa Cruz and its port, as well as the beautiful landscapes of Monte Santa Trega. This mountain houses the Castro de Santa Trega, a well-preserved Galician settlement with circular houses and an archaeological museum explaining the history of the cultures that inhabited the area.

Next, we will cross the border into Portugal and visit the fortress of Valença do Minho, famous for its impressive moats and defensive walls. Depending on the time, we may have the chance to taste traditional Portuguese codfish at a local restaurant.

Our last stop of the day will be in Tui, a Galician city full of history. There, we will visit the Monte Aloia Natural Park, the majestic Tui Cathedral, the Monastery of Santo Domingo, and other fascinating churches and monuments.

At the end of the day, our driver will take us back to Baiona. If we still have energy, we can explore its charming old town, declared a "Historic-Artistic Site", try the delicious local cuisine, or relax on its beaches. Baiona is also known for its nautical activities, making it an ideal destination for sea lovers.

We will finish the day with dinner in Baiona and rest at the designated accommodation.

  • Day 3: Guided Tour Vigo - Parador of Cambados

After resting at the accommodation in Baiona and enjoying a good breakfast, we will check out and our driver will be ready to head towards Cambados.

On the way, we will stop in Vigo for a guided tour of the city. One of Vigo's main attractions is its fishing neighborhoods, especially the Casco Vello de Bouzas, with its small port, lighthouse, urban beach, and beautiful promenade. From here, passing by the famous Sireno Statue, we can reach the old town of the city, ideal for strolling through its cobbled streets. Just a few meters away, we find the famous Street of Oysters, where we can taste the world-renowned oysters from the Ría de Vigo.

We recommend wandering through Vigo, enjoying its most emblematic monuments, its wonderful old town, and, of course, its delicious cuisine.

Once the tour is over, we will continue our journey to Cambados. Upon arrival and depending on the time, we can spend the rest of the day resting at the Parador of Cambados, our accommodation for the next days.

The Parador of Cambados is the former Pazo de Bazán, an elegant 17th-century manor house, located in the Rías Baixas and surrounded by beautiful coastal landscapes. This Parador combines history and luxury, with bright and comfortable rooms and a lovely inner courtyard with a terrace where we can relax peacefully.

It is undoubtedly an exceptional accommodation, both for its architecture and its natural surroundings.

We will spend our first night at this charming Parador in Cambados.

  • Day 4: Traslatio Route - Cambados

Breakfast at the accommodation. Our fourth day begins. In the morning, when we are ready, our driver will take us to Vilanova de Arousa, where the Traslatio starts.

The Traslatio recounts the story of how the Stone Boat transported the body of Apostle James on a 7-day journey from Haifa (Palestine) to Iria Flavia (Padrón). Starting from the fishing village of Vilanova de Arousa, we will ascend the Ulla River, retracing the journey of the remains of Apostle James in the Stone Boat. During this incredible experience, we will see the world's only maritime-fluvial Way of the Cross, formed by 12 stone crosses located at the mouth of the estuary and along the banks of the Ulla River, which mark this stretch of the Way of St. James. We will navigate the final stretch until we reach Pontecesures, and then make the return trip to our starting point, where our driver will pick us up to take us back to the accommodation.

Cambados offers a unique combination of a fishing village and elegance, being one of the main showcases of Galician manor houses (pazos). Its old town has been designated a Historic-Artistic Monumental Site. In its center is the Plaza and Pazo de Fefiñáns, the neuralgic center of Cambados. In addition to the Pazo, this square houses buildings such as the Arco Puente and the Church of San Benito. All these constructions are made of granite, making it one of the most unique architectural ensembles in Galicia.

On the outskirts of Cambados, the Ruins of Santa Mariña Dozo are also worth mentioning. They can be reached with a short walk. Built on a 12th-century Romanesque temple, these ruins provide such an idyllic image that they have become the city's most iconic landmark.

After this beautiful day, we will return to the accommodation to rest.

  • Day 5: Pilgrim Option - Gastronomic Tasting - Parador of Santiago

If we choose the pilgrim option, our accommodation for the next two days will be the Reyes Católicos Parador in Santiago de Compostela. After breakfast and check-out, our driver will head to the capital of Galicia.

Once we arrive at our destination and check in, we will spend the afternoon exploring our accommodation.
The Reyes Católicos Parador is one of the most spectacular and essential stops in the entire Paradores network, and we could say it is a must-visit at least once, as it is one of Santiago's emblems.

It is located in the Plaza do Obradoiro, flanked by the Cathedral of Santiago, the University, and the Pazo de Raxoi. Staying here means being in a truly unique and exclusive place. It was commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs as a pilgrims' hospital in 1499, making it one of the most luxurious and historic hotels in Spain. Inside are four cloisters, elegant rooms, beautiful bedrooms, and a luxurious dining room.

When ready, we will head to the Mercado de Abastos de Santiago, which has been operating for the past three centuries, becoming a leading center for fresh products. Here, in a typical establishment of the city, we will enjoy a tasting of traditional Galician products, cheeses, and wines.

After the meal and a good rest, we will have the afternoon free to explore or relax as we wish.

  • Day 6: Pilgrim Option - Guided Tour Santiago

Second day at the accommodation in Santiago. After breakfast, we will prepare to experience the European pilgrimage capital on a guided tour. This tour will explore the Historic Center of Santiago de Compostela, starting from its most emblematic spot, located at the cathedral's façade, and continuing through its squares and most notable landmarks.

We will learn about the city's most representative cultural and historical points and get recommendations from our guides, who know every inch of this historic center declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO nearly 40 years ago.

After the tour, we will have the afternoon free to explore or revisit our favorite spots.

  • Day 7: End of the Circuit

This is the final day of our getaway. We will wake up and enjoy a relaxed breakfast. After check-out, depending on the departure schedule of the train or plane, our driver will take us to the starting point, whether it be the nearest airport or train station to end the circuit.

We wish you a pleasant return and hope these days in Galicia have left unforgettable memories.
